Tablet Market is Still Rapidly Growing
Britain leads Europe in tablet use, according to various studies.
The results show that over 40% of Britons will regularly use a tablet in 2014, and a study by eMarketer says that collectively over half of the E.U.’s tablet users will come from Britain and Germany by 2018, they project.
Uptake of tablets has been phenomenal with over 20 million users in Britain and France each.
‘Sofa-surfers’ and ‘bedroom browsers’ provide much of the activity on these technologies. Back in 2011 a survey showed that most tablet owners used their tablets for at least an hour a day.
Whilst desktops still are important in terms of e-commerce, tablets are progressively replacing this activity. We have found also that tablets and mobiles are making significant inroads into the market and typically seeing that a third to nearly half of all activity a commercial UK site gets is from tablets and mobiles.
People thinking of investing in a new website are encouraged to think about how to build a site that looks good and is functional on tablets and mobiles as the market value of these is increasing. You can’t really reverse-engineer a site to do this and its advisable to build this ‘responsiveness in at the beginning. The latest websites will also contain publishing options and many other features which can help you create content that is appealing to home ‘surfers’ too.
And Google recommends this now to assist in the ranking of the site as more and more Google goes from using links as a ranking method to other features reflecting site quality and user experience.
