Social Media Giant, Facebook To Add Hashtags
If you use Twitter you will be very acquainted with the “#”, now more popularly known as the final character of a hashtag. The social media giant Facebook is about to go head-to-head with Twitter by adding hashtags.
Facebook is said to be working on incorporating the hashtag by using the symbol as a way to group conversations.
It is unclear at this stage how far along Facebook’s work on the hashtag is, and the feature isn’t likely to be introduced imminently.
Facebook is testing whether to allow users to click on a hashtag to pull up all posts about similar topics or events so it can quickly index conversations around trending topics and build those conversations up.
It is thought that Facebook is doing this as it will give users more reason to stay logged in and see more ads. Instagram, which Facebook acquired in 2012, already uses hashtags, which allows users to sort photos by the symbol.
