Podcast Strategy

Today we have a few podcast strategy tips for marketers. Steve Jobs believed podcasts were going to revolutionise the way people listened to radio programmes. His prophecy was pretty much spot on.

It was predicted that ad revenue was to top $220m up 85% from 2016 last year.

But what is important when it comes to creating a successful podcast strategy?

  • firstly, consider what your audience wants to hear. Get familiar with analytics to determine what topic or style of subject generates the most interest and engagement.
  • secondly, don’t overly advertise. Audience doesn’t like it. Consumers don’t hate ads but they feel aversion to bad ads. Podcast should fit in with their organisation’s wider values. Branded content can result in greater brand awareness.
  • also, encourage curiosity and questions. Let people discuss episodes and interact with others. Make them feel important. The most obvious place for this is social media.
  • create additional content based on the podast itself, generate new listeners, build  positive relationship.
  • standardised measurement and tighten procedure. The guidelines state that measurement should begin after a minute of audio, and a matching user agent and IP address should be considered the same person within 24 hours.
