Pinterest to Pin Down the Competition?
Half of all the pins on Pinterest have been generated in the last 6 months, and the total number is some 30 billion, the CEO Ben Silbermann has announced, and the company is said to be valued at about $5 Billion, although Silbermann has no intention of selling – at any price.
The companies rapid growth hasn’t gone unnoticed by rivals, and I had wondered why Facebook didn’t buy it.
Seems that that’s because Silbermann’s focus is on developing the company and the technology behind it.
Pinterest also generates a lot of referral traffic to other sites according to Shareaholic, more than everybody except Facebook.
Pinterests user demographics are very interesting to marketers because the majority are women. It wouldn’t surprise me that the platform might overtake some of the leading social platforms as places where marketers in future most want to place adverts.
Definitely one to keep an eye on.
If you are a keen Pinterest user we would be interested in hearing your thoughts about the platform.
