First Call Extensions, Now a Message Extension for Mobiles
Google is very enthusiastic about mobile advertising. With the message extension it is expanding the options available to advertisers as well as new reporting features.
For example, the new Expanded Text ads are intended to give flexibility to display well on different devices.
Then there is tracking to record if a mobile click ended up in a store visit, to assist measurement of value.
Until now though when it came to what you could do for mobile users it was pretty limited. You could use the click to call feature, and select call only ads. These would show during business hours. You also had location extensions that are valuable on mobiles. These can also enable ads and promoted pins to show in google maps.
Now they have come up with another option – a message that allows you to write a text message to a suitable phone.
Because many websites are not very mobile freindly, or have too many options to easily navigate, advertisers need new ways to drive conversions via mobile. The key approach is to use mobiles to get through to an operator that can assist conversions.
The message extension allows you to send a text directly from the ad, without needing a website visit.
To enable these extensions, go to the campaign or ad group, Ad Extensions, and then select the message extension option. You have options covering what text shows. Also the destination phone, and ad scheduling the controls when the extension shows,
