New Developments in Shopper Marketing
A selection of interesting new developments:
Near field communication
Much like bar codes, Near Field Communication (NFC) allows access to product data but via detection of an NFC tag rather than optical verification, using radio communication.
This has been developed by defense firms as a way to simulate battlefields, and by architects and designers. Augmented reality however, thanks to advances in mobile phone power and speed, can be used now by many more people and influence retail experiences. Combined with NRF tags and links and GPS there is rich potential here for context relevant information.
The rise of new barcodes like QR and Microsoft Tag can revolutionise the shopping experience, for example providing extra information about a product such as where food was farmed. Ideally, it can be used to communicate products and offers naturally between friends such as through i.e.Pinterest pins
