Lexicon of ad Terms and Acronymus

It is difficult to make sense from ad buying terms, jargon and complicated acronyms.

Today we present vocabulary list of the most popular words and acronymus. We have this glossary divided into three categories:

 

  • Before – where we define the different kinds of ads.
  • During –terms used in purchasing stage, such as “ad exchange”
  • After – breaks down some of the things that happen once your ad has made its way to the Internet.

BEFORE:

    • Banner ad: long, vertically short ads most commonly placed at the top
    • Billboard: taller banner ad
    • Button: a small display ad
    • Native ads: ads designed to blend in with their surroundings
    • Pop-ups:  ads that pop up in a new window
    • Responsive ads: ads designed to adapt to different devices and screen sizes.
    • Rich media: ads with audio, video, or some other interactive element

DURING:

  • Ad exchange:  a technology platform that enables advertisers and publishers to buy and sell advertising space.
  • Ad verification: a set of principles ensuring that an ad is a good one, from a quality standpoint
  • Auction: the process that determines who sees ads and ads location on a page
  • Demand-side platform (DSP): t
  • Before – where we define the different kinds of ads.
  • he technology that allows marketers to purchase ads automatically via real-time bidding exchanges. The publisher version of this is known as a supply-side platform (SSP)

AFTER:

  • Ad blockers: browser-enabled software users use in order to avoid seeing ads
  • Conversion: when a clicks leads to something valuable for the advertiser, such as a purchase, sign-up or page view.
  • Impression: the measure of ad views.
