Instagram – New Photo/Video Format in Social Media
Instagram, one of the fastest growing social media sites, is looking for innovation and challenges all the time. This famous site announced a new format of pictures recently.
From 2010 Instagram recognises only 640×640 filtered photos. Recently by lifting this ban, this social media portal allow photographers to paint a more accurate picture of reality and tell their story more accurately.
Apart from the square format, users will be able to post photos and videos shot in landscape and portrait mode.
This new freedom is already available on other major social media. This change can be good and bad at the same time. Marketers can embrace it or run in the opposite direction. Some may worry that Instagram could lose their identity by embracing a more flexible format.
Brands will be able to share their Facebook campaigns on Instagram. Also, this new move can activate wider support and investment in vertical video on Instagram (vertical video is the tall, narrow video filmed on portrait mode by a smartphone). Recently Youtube announced their approval for vertical video as well.
Most people create and consume their video exactly in this format.
Also, Instagram revealed that nearly 1/5 of uploaded photos and videos aren’t in square format anyway.
