How the basic Google ad sale works. When someone searches for say foot pain remedies in Google, the Google Ads method looks at its supply of merchants to conclude if there will be a sale. There is a difference between the keyword and the search query. The keyword describes what we add in the campaign, the search query is what we are entering into Google. Your ad only triggered when the search query and keyword approximately match, how closely is defined by keyword match types.

Because the main ad type in google was generated by keywords, the advertising platform was known as AsWords.

With the keyword matched to a text advert, the next even is that Google calculates the ad rank of eligible adverts by different advertisers to show on the search results page. The top ad is determined primarily by how much you bid, and your position, or ‘ad rank’ as it is known, is determined by the auction process with higher bidders appearing above lower bidders. This isn’t the only part, Google also applies each advert a ‘quality score’, based on how good it thinks you are as a visitor experience, and based on relevancy and Click-Through Rates for your ads. This Quality score means that a low score means you have a large premium to pay to get the ad to show in a good position (ad rank).

In the past, and still quite often, the bids the advertiser is willing to pay are set manually for that keyword they are bidding on. This does not mean that is what you pay, but it sets the upper limit of what you are willing to pay. Your actual cost per clicks are usually substantially less than the Max price set in Google Ads. The highest price you pay, is set by the next advertiser below you in the ad rank, so that your position is their bid plus a penny. We can also use automated bid strategy. which allows the system to determine the bids and place of your ads based on whatever you want it to optimise, such as product purchases. This lets Google make the decisions of how much a click should cost and it dictates when to show the ad.
