How to Create Exciting Content In Boring Sectors
Even if your sector is not the most interesting, it is still possible to create content that can be considered interesting.
More than 35% of marketers say that content that neither provokes or engages is a barrier to successfully generating demand.
In the world of content is king, it seems a lot of people just spit out article after article of boring drivel, hoping to drive traffic to their site or increase their ranking in Google, but it doesn’t have to be that way.
Even in what people perceive as boring subject areas like web coding or software development it is still possible to make exciting or interesting content, and here is a few tips on how you can achieve it.
Give users your help
Your aim should be to help others that have questions. Web coding and software development isn’t actually as boring as it seems if you have an interest in the topic. For me, I love web coding tutorials and how-to guides whereas some of my close friends would rather sit there for 10 hours and watch paint dry! The beauty of the web is that at least somebody shares the same interests as you and has questions that you have also asked at some point.
Try not to bore your readers with endless drivel of company information and try to reach out to your readers and answer some of the questions they are likely to be asking. This means listening to your users and trying to find our what the exact reason they are visiting your site or blog is.
Instead of writing generic information about your chosen subject area, try to be more specific, asking and answering specific questions. If people are searching for answers in Google they are usually looking for answers to specific questions, so provide the answer and don’t just give them a general post that will sit among a sea of other posts talking about the same generic thing.
Its the easiest thing to do, just be yourself. When you write your articles, write like you would talk to your friend in a bar, not like a lawyer or barrister. Business talk can alienate or confuse people so keep it simple stupid.
Some of your readers will be seasoned pro’s in your field and some will have no idea what you’re talking about, so keep your text simple to understand and in this way everyone will be able to take something away from your post even when you’re talking about advanced topics. Don’t alienate people by trying to sound like you’re in the know or by trying to impress your industry friends.
This can include humour and challenging or controversial points, it will keep people reading and may raise a few comments from people.
If you have infographics, use them. They say a picture paints a thousand words, so save your fingers and put a picture in. If you have a funny related image, use it. People are very visual and they like their eyes to be stimulated. Reading reams and reams of text is just not exciting to alot of people, so keep it short, sweet and include images to explain certain points where possible.
