Progressive Web Applications or PWA’s are websites but they feel like an app to the user with app-type navigational tools.
In 2015, Alex Russell, a Google Chrome engineer and Frances Berriman, a designer, created the term “Progressive Web Applications” or PWA’s.
Progressive was used as it works for all users, irrelevant of which browser they are using. In addition, it is compatible with desktops, tablets and mobiles. There is no complex installation and it can be easily and simply shared via a URL. They are indexed by search engines.
Both Microsoft and Google are supporting and promoting PWA’s, with best practices in mind.
A few publishers, social networks and technical companies were the main original users of pwa’s. Many different sectors and now using pwa’s, and they are particularly popular with retailers.
