Google Symptom Search
Is Google Symptom Search opportunity for the public or rather thread to healthcare industry? Is the online diagnose accurate or is it still better to visit a doctor?
Google’s decision to roll out this feature comes as a answer to key changes that have occurred in the patient path to treatment over the past years. Latest study admit that nearly half of consumers rely on internet and only 14% of people first turn to GP.
Google try to eliminate misinformation in the digital patient path to treatment. Mobile users need to enter only a few symptoms with very short description to receive list of related conditions, possible causes, and treatments.
The feature help to avoid alarmist diagnoses while focusing on the most likely causes of your condition.
According to Google’s blog, it intends to help users “quickly get to the point where [they] can do more in-depth research on the web or talk to a health professional.”
Everything changed so quickly that healthcare industry has found itself with little to no say in the matter.
Consumer-driven disruption already effects:
- the remote patient monitoring technologies
- demand for increased efficiency and price transparency
- 95% of consumers demand online access to health records
Change is difficult but technology shouldn’t be viewed as a threat.
