Using Google+ For Business

Google+ seems to be the big buzzword buzzing around the internet these days, but what is it exactly?

With more than 62,000,000 users worldwide and with its integration with Google search, its obvious that it is something worth taking note of.

It is constantly changing and evolving and so it could be hard to keep up to date with the best techniques and tactics for creating your Google+ profile either for you or for your business, but below are a couple of tips to get you started.

Search Results

You may have noticed recently that information about authors have become included in Google Search results, including an image and links to add this person to your own Google+ Circle. This information can be added to your search results in a variety of ways.

The official suggestion from Google is that you should add your name and email address to every article you write and then verify this email inside your Google+ profile.

There is however another way to do this through link exchange. Simply add a Google Profile Button to your webpage or site or hardcode it using the code:  <a href=”[profile_url]?rel=author”>Google</a> replacing the [profile_url] section with your long id in your Google+ profile web address. Once you have done this you need to go into your Google+ profile and add the sites that you contribute to in the aptly named ‘Contribute to’ section. Once completed you need to fill out a short form and you’re done!

Google+ in Google Search

There was a lot of anger among SEO professionals after Google+’s new search functionality. It would seem that Google has started to favour its own content above others including Facebook and Twitter.

This means however that you can take advantage of this and put information on your Google+ profile or business page. Try to keep it relevant so that other people are more likely to add you to their Google+ circle meaning that your content is more likely to appear higher in Google rankings.

Build Connections

Try to build connections with people that have good influence or respect within your sector, to try and drive connections it is important to keep your content creative and interesting. Good ways to do this are to post interesting information often that is likely to catch the eye of potential onlookers, try to put a different edge to your content to try to grab people’s attention and to increase curiosity in yourself.

Google+ is constantly updating, changing, evolving their platform.
