Facebook’s ongoing data abuse crisis are still unclear. People suspect that one of the most popular tools on this social platform can be changed. Marketers will require to ask individuals for consent to use there data.

 

Facebook is building new tool that will require marketers “represent and warrant” to Facebook. Only when they have this permission they will upload the data. This is big step forward.

The Cambridge Analytica scandal suggests that Facebook has been lax when it comes to protect users. Changes are necessary. Facebook is getting serious about how data is used on its platform.

Facebook spokesperson Elisabeth Diana told TechCrunch:

“we’re going to make that much more prominent and educate advertisers on the way they can use the data.”

Facebook and user consent for custom audiences will has implication for marketers.

  • for example Wild Wild West environment is fast coming to an end.
  • also, GDPR is coming into force in less than two months. Under the GDPR, marketers will be required to obtain the consent. Facebook is asking marketers to represent they have anyway.
  • the game is changing and marketers need to be prepared if they want to keep playing.
