Enormous Growth In Facebook Video Use
Facebook has recorded quite amazing growth in the numbers of videos being watched by it’s users.
The findings show that since June 2014, an average of 1 billion videos are watched per day, and this has increased an average of 50% between May and July.
Mobile users accounted for most of these views. The reasons for the growth are partly down to growth in smart phones but more directly the changes Facebo
ok has introduced in the feed algorithms which push related videos to the front page, as well as more video sharing presumably.
Facebook is also enabling video metrics for advertising much like those in YouTube, and it can be anticipated that video advertising will become a major force for advertisers on the network – not necessarily in terms of promotional videos but a facility to advertise in the video in some way, as seen in YouTube videos. It makes a lot of sense for Facebook to try to build a direct rival to YouTube whereas a lot of currently shared content in Facebook is hosted on YouTube, and this will give ok new streams of advertising revenue whilst taking advantage of Facebooks marketing information it can obtain from users.
Facebook will undoubtedly become a bigger and bigger area for marketers
