Should you personalise mailshot?

Some reports from the industry indicates no, but of course personal experience may contradict this in different cases.  Here’s the findings from some previous research:

  • Subject line personalization can depress open rate
  • Personalization of only the message may slightly improve open rate

Very short subject lines tend to have the highest opens, but modest length subject lines tend towards higher better click rates, as one would expect.

Open rates generally are best at the beginning of the week, rapidly climb after 4am to 10am and then rapidly decline, as expected.
