Email Law Basic Regulations

Many have come across a CAN-SPAM nightmare email strategy.  Marketing creators are breaking the law on a regular basis. They could be charged thousands of dollars for email which isn’t compliant with CAN-SPAM.

The US government put in place very simple and clear rules – the CAN-SPAM Act regulates how creators can build and distribute an email list.

 

CAN-SPAM stand for “Controlling the Assault of Non-Solicited Pornography And Marketing.” Thanks to this act recipients have the right to ask businesses to stop emailing them. Also, the act forbids marketers from misleading people on their list.

To comply with CAN-SPAM laws marketers need to:

  • add message location. Physical mailing address needs to be on every email
  • every message should include clear and easy to read instructions to “unsubscribe ”
  • clear language in “from”, “to” etc..
  • remove from list all people who wish to be unsubscribe in maximum 10 days period
  • add anyone to mail list only with their permission

If you wish to have a loyal list of subscribers and not fall afoul of regulations it is crucial to follow these simple rules.

Email boxes are already extremely cluttered. There is no point to adding people to something which they have zero interest in. Crossing boundaries is not good practice. It is not only a CAN-SPAM issue but also good manners.
