eBay and authentication service
eBay open the door for shoppers to purchase of hundreds of billions of dollars worth of goods. Firstly, it is without question ecommerce pioneer. Unexpectedly, there are many friction related to counterfeit goods.
This market place and luxury brands like LVMH and Tiffany & Co. have done battle in the courts. Ultimate, this market place understands that its interests are largely aligned with those of the luxury brands.
Consumers want to trust that the goods they purchase are authentic. According to Laura Chamers, VP of Consumer Selling, because of counterfeiting concerns.
“We know that many shoppers may be hesitant to purchase high-end products online.”
This is the reason why company announced that it will be launching a new program called Authenticate later this year.
It is designed for high-end merchandise. Sellers of these expensive items will be able to pay eBay to have professional authenticators authenticate their items.
Also, this selling platform stated that it will refund buyers two times the cost of the original purchase price. Only, if merchandise they purchase is found to be counterfeit during the eBay Authenticate process.
It is very interesting concept. eBay’s Chamers says: “For sellers, [eBay Authenticate] will be most beneficial for those who are looking to part ways with their high-value items, but don’t necessarily have a long established selling history on eBay.”
