Blockchain and Digital Advertising
Blockchain and Digital Advertising Is Just Beginning
Digital advertising it is the simplest way that companies can monetize their content. Advertisements are always present online. There is a new model for decentralized digital advertising. The blockchain can link peoples data, their need for anonymity, and drive new ways to reward advertisers and users for interacting with the blockchain. It was originally conceived that some search engines would pay users to surf on them by redistributing some ad revenue to users.
This didn’t take off in the dot.com bubble probably because those search engines were not polished enough.
But, the idea is making a comeback.
Basic Attention Token (BAT)
You can find out more about this impressive project at their website.
It’s an extremely polished browser. You can start using it now from this link

BAT will pass anonymised profile information on to advertisers which pays the website and can reward the user as well using the native currency, BAT.
That data is stored in a:
- encrypted fashion.
Video sharing platforms like YouTube are entirely funded by advertising. Verasity is another blockchain project putting the power back into the hands of publishers and viewers, using a patented Proof of View, similar to BAT/Brave.
The Proof-of-View protocol is designed to securely verify data in a transparent way.
Information that is collected have to compliant with requirements set forth by:
- firstly, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR),
- secondly, Payment Card Industry (PCI DDS),
- also, ePrivacy.
Therefore, Blockchain provides us with the tools.
We’re at a tipping point in digital advertising, and we know that it’s not disappearing anytime soon. However, there is a better way for us to engage, so that we know that our information is kept safe.
Verasity’s Proof-of-View and BAT is bringing us one step closer to a more decentralized and democratic method of monetizing ads. Consumers have more power over their information.
And the motivation of BAT is wholey positive for users. The native currency can be used to also to provide voluntary tips to content creators or even pay for subscription services.
Brave results in faster page loads by blocking tracking cookies and if you opt to accept adverts you will gain a percentage of ad spend.
This does not effect Google Search Ads. For advertisers Brave offers some headaches. Simple Search and Display Remarketing will be a thing of the past. That is unless we presume you advertise through the platform provided by Brave. Brave Ads is expected to roll out to advertisers towards the end of 2018.
Eventually though blockchain promises to enable advertisers to more finely target their audiences, and only pay based on the views and attention obtained from the advert.
