Ages 18 – 29
This age group is absolutely glorious. They are highest users across 4 of the 5 main social media platforms. The only exception is LinkedIn. This platform is not very exciting to youngsters at the moment.
Ages 30 – 49
Also, this is very prominent age group. They are leaders on LinkedIn but not on Facebook. They growing very slowly on Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest .
This age group is losing effectively intrest in Facebook and mostly connect to LinkedIn for business purposes.
Ages 50 – 64
They make up 12% of Twitter users, 12% of Instagram audience and 63% of active users on Facebook. They are more interesting in business opportunities in social media.
Also this age group shows lots of interest with another platform – Pintrest. This social media portal allows users to organize and share photos by creating “pinboards”. Very interesting concept.
56% usage rate on Facebook. They had massive increase in Facebook usage at 11%. While the lower aged groups have slowed or dropped off Facebook, this group is growing in usage in social media rather fast. Only 10% of this group is tweeting and 6% use Instagram.
In summary, we can find all ages in social media. Facebook has the most users mostly older audience.
Instagram has experienced huge growth by all groups. Twitter, LinkedIn and Pinterest are growing slower but across all age groups.
