Misconceptions about Average Position:

  • firstly, higher position is always best. Sometimes CPA and conversion rate improved quite considerably when the average position dropped.
  • secondly, higher bid guarantee better position. The quality score plays as important role as bid in ad rank.
  • It’s Too Expensive to Compete in Those Top Positions with the Rich Businesses. It is not true.
  • If competitors are ranked higher it is the end of the word. It’s much more important to have a firm grip on your own KPI goals and to know what your plan of attack is to achieve them.
  • Add as many as possible keywords to landing page. It is more important to create a quality landing page that will convert. Quality over quantity.

Average position can have a slightly different meaning or behave a bit differently depending on what platform you’re using. It is a statistic that describes how your ad typically ranks against other ads.
